Production Field Supervisor (Job Op)

The production field supervisor is responsible for supervising employees and subcontractors and coordinating activities related to the successful completion of a wide range of residential remodeling projects sold by the sales department and taking a project from job start to final completion. This position is part of a team that remodels people’s homes while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction throughout our process.

Production Field Supervisor – Overall Job Responsibilities

  • Provide and enhance customer satisfaction throughout the production process. Maintain and provide the service clients have received through the design process and carry forward through the construction process.

    • Material
    • Job Sites
  • Tools
  • Safety
  • Ongoing training and development of production personnel
  • Be part of the SCI management team
  • Is responsible for actual production work in any capacity
  • Oversee safety on all projects
  • Ability to perform all lead carpenter duties
  • Control and manage production costs

 Production Field Supervisor – Specific Duties

Project Coordination/Supervision

  • Layout daily carpenter schedule to meet the project schedules and production objectives
  • On-site review of all quality control – labor, materials & subcontractors
  • Minimal drive time/efficient road time
  • Visit each project a minimum of 2 times weekly
  • Accept and monitor final working drawings notifying the design and production manager of any problems, coordinate any changes
  • Attend office pre-job meetings
  • Overall project safety

Production Schedule

  • Schedule self on a weekly basis, based on field and office requirements including specific weekly office time
  • Schedule and monitor activities of all field personnel based on project schedule requirements
  • Collect and review lead carpenter weekly timesheets to make sure they are planning the next 2 weeks and are ready for the next phase of the project
  • Assign and manage personnel for each project working with the Production Manager
  • Update Production Manager on actual field requirements and modify schedule accordingly, with no less than one week notice

Overall Project Schedule

  • Review production schedule, modify to actual time frame
  • Coordinate the following with Production Manager and Lead Carpenters:
    • Lumber order, delivery & pickup
    • Rubbish removal
    • Subcontractors
    • Windows and doors – ordering/information
    • Special order products
    • Inspections
    • Tools and equipment
  • Coordinate subcontractors based on the production schedule
  • Handle day to day routine challenges
  • Handle field details with Production Manager and field personnel
  • Solve on-site carpenter, subcontractor, and customer challenges
  • Coordinate with clients – special access when needed, products

Specifically Responsible for

  • Excavation layout/setup on site
  • Concrete layout/setup on site
  • Verifying actual project to the details on plans and contracts
  • Layout and order trusses
  • Layout and order structural steel and coordinate engineer review

Punchlist

  • Complete pre-punchlist walkthrough with lead carpenter
  • Final punch list coordination/completion

Personnel

  • Supervise – coordinate all field personnel
  • Training field personnel – coordinate ongoing training program with the management team
  • Hiring/firing field personnel
  • Reviews – all field personnel
  • Coordinate safety program with production manager
  • Labor efficiency – maintain & recommend efficient methods
  • Develop/review weekly task schedules as necessary
  • Maintain reporting – measuring system, develop basic skills/evaluation test

Supervisor

  • Optimum use of field personnel – matching skills/costs to correct tasks
  • Quality control/training
  • Stairway finish – custom stairway & layout supervision
  • Define, recommend and implement changes to increase cost efficiencies

Project Review & Manage

  • Contracts, change orders, and plans – review and know all details
  • Labor reports – review and advise sales and estimating
  • Job cost reports – review and make adjustments
  • Maintain project files – contracts, change orders, plans, permits, etc.
  • Pre-scheduled office time, 1-2 times per week as needed
  • Develop construction details – typical
  • Develop construction details – special

Safety

  • Perform field visits of project sites and review for good safety practices – carpenters and subcontractors
  • Part of safety team
  • Investigate all field accidents

Misc.

  • Maintain accurate office/shed material lists
  • Tools – develop yearly budget and review purchases
  • Maintain personal and company tools
  • Update and maintain production tools
  • Maintain company vehicles, if applicable, vehicle to be stocked at all times
  • May also be required to perform other job duties and responsibilities that management or immediate supervisor may assign or may be deemed necessary

Skills and Tools Required

  • Ability to read at 12th-grade level and speak English
  • Ability to read/understand construction plans and structural details
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Computer skills – working knowledge of Lotus 123 or Excel, Word Perfect or Microsoft Word, Office Logic, E-mail
  • Basic typing skills
  • 5 years minimum as Lead Carpenter
  • 3 years minimum as Lead Carpenter for SCI
  • Good driving record
  • Complete expanded inventory of hand and power tools
  • Estimating skills
    • Lumber take-offs
    • Labor take-offs
  • Lead Certification, CR or CLC
