Ask The Expert: Will lumber prices make my project cost more?

For remodeling projects like this new bathroom, lumber is usually a small part of the overall budget. Larger additions, however, will feel the impact of these rising costs.

You may have heard stories of the incredible lumber price increases, lack of appliance availability, and manufacturing delays plaguing the construction industry. They are true!

However, Kate has done a remarkable job of pulling projects together while working through the slalom course of availability: not manufactured anymore, we will manufacture when we get enough orders, etc. Do you remember when the customer was important in the supply chain? I do.

Yes, lumber cost increases are real. But truly, in the many kitchen, bath, and interior remodeling projects, lumber costs are really a small percentage of the overall cost. So although there have been increases, the effects of the increase usually are small.

Larger additions, however, will feel the impact of these rising costs. We expect to see some fallback in lumber costs later this year. Even with these cost increases, one thing that doesn’t seem to change is that costs don’t go down by delaying a project. It’s always a good time to remodel and enjoy your new spaces!!
